Our Clinical Director of Occupational Therapy, Heather MacEwen is invited to speak at Geneva Centre's 5 day Summer Training Session- August 18-22, 2008. - 2008-08-12

We are proud to announce that the Geneva Centre for Autism has asked Heather MacEwen to speak to the North Bay location during this 5 day Summer Training Institute 2008 program. The conference is related to the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis and the comprehensive
planning process. The training will be delivered locally in 6 sites across Ontario. A portion of the content will be delivered in person by Geneva Centre for Autism Training Faculty. Guest speakers’ presentations will be transmitted by video conference from Toronto to each site. On-site facilitators will assist with group practice activities. Shelley Ortved SLP, blueballoon is a committee member of the special event fundraiser Masquerade Madness, October 17, 2008 supporting “First Three years: Parenting Resources & Training”. First Three Years support parents in their effort to encourage their child’s social and emotional development — the critical foundation on which every other mental skill can flourish. The event evening includes entertainment, silent auction, and delicious food. Funds raised at this event will support First Three Years-improving the lives of infants and toddlers by strengthening the parent-child relationship.

Karen proudly highlights a research project she was contracted to lead in March 2007 with the Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (CIHC). An updated synthesis of Interprofessional Education and Core Competencies was completed in May of 2007 under Karen’s lead which synthesized competency literature and statements and identified continuing gaps in research and literature related to IPE competencies. Bill Carroll of CFRB tells us how his daughter Magalie takes her first steps using MEDEK therapy at blueballoon - 2008-06-10

After hundreds of hours of therapy, Bill's daughter Magalie lifted her right leg, and took her first unaided steps. Bill's wife Sylvie offerend an update that Even son Killian was so proud he told his friends and teachers at daycare first thing the next morning.

She did it again at physio the next morning and, as Sylvie said, "it sure made it real. She still has a long road ahead to practice, perform and balance herself. However, it's nice to touch the light at the end of the tunnel."

The private therapy takes place at Blueballoon Health Services

Update: The Painful test at Sick Kids has been postponed because of the progress she's shown.

blueballoon Health Services proudly hosted Cuevas MEDEK Exercises Certification this month in Toronto - 2008-06-05

We are happy to annouces that 25 therapists were certified in CMEI and 12 in CMEII this past month in Toronto. The course was run by founder and creator Ramon Cuevas in conjunction with our Director, Physiotherapy, Founder, blueballoon physiotherapy, Simona DeMarchi.

Ramon graduated Summa Cum Laude in Physical Therapy from the University of Chile in 1969 in Santiago, Chile, Ramon began developing the CME approach (formerly MEDEK) in 1972 and continues to evolve his therapeutic approach. In 1973, he participated in the creation of the first Early Intervention Centre in Caracas, Venezuela and has more than thirty five years of experience in the treatment of children with neurological and musculoskeletal dysfunction.

Ramon teaches students and professionals around the world and has participated in conferences in South America and USA. In 2000, Ramon established the Cuevas Medek Exercise Continuing Education Program (CMECEP) in order to heighten the quality of CME courses for professionals who work in paediatric rehabilitation. He has published numerous articles and has participated in the publication of books for parents on the subject. Ramon lives and practices in his centre in Santiago, Chile, and travels abroad to teach C.M.E. courses personally, in order to share with the participants the most updated evolution of CME therapy.
