Maximizing school breaks or modifying your home to augment the work being done in the clinical setting, can set up you and your child for success!
Who: A Sensory Environment is designed to benefit the whole family, including:
- Children with challenges with sensory processing, sensory regulation, and/or motor skill development
- Parents who are looking to set up a Sensory Environment within their home to support their child’s needs
What: A thorough step-by-step “how to” guide for creating a Sensory Environment within your home or school environment, which includes:
- Identification of both your child’s sensory profile and needs and your own
- Identification of equipment that may range from common, every day items to specialized clinical equipment
- Specific recommendations and home programming content so that a home program can be successfully completed with your child
Where: The initial session can take place at one of our four fully equipped clinics or through our Remote Services. By using Remote Services, we can work with you without the travel!
When: Available by appointment with a blueballoon Occupational Therapist.
Why: To allow for home based programming to ensure consistency of therapy recommendations and maximum exposure to valuable learning opportunities:
- Provides clear guidance for parents navigating the complex world of sensory equipment.
- Includes clinical consultation to promote understanding of both your child’s sensory systems and needs and your own.
- Provides parent training for how to use the recommended equipment.
- Can be used to support a Sensory Diet program.
- Can provide opportunities for respite for caregivers.
How: It is important that our therapist understands your child's individual needs. Here is how the process breaks down:
- Assessment of Child’s Interaction with various Sensory Equipment
- Parent Interview (may be scheduled during the above session)
- Sensory Profile: Caregiver AND Adult Questionnaires completed including Scoring and Analysis
- Equipment Recommendations and Home Programming
- Parent Consult and Equipment/Home Programming Training
