Jump Start is designed for children experiencing weaknesses with their fine and/or gross motor skill development. Gross motor skills are large muscle group movements including jumping, running, climbing, balance, coordination and general strength. Fine motor skills are small muscle group movements including things we do with our hands such as printing, colouring, tying shoe laces and buttoning/zipping clothing. Fine and gross motor skills are required for almost everything we do with our bodies and are an integral part of your child’s learning.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
- Fine motor skill craft activities that encourage independence in colouring, cutting and pasting
- Sensory exploration using different textures including sand, water, putty, shaving cream, etc
- Body awareness games to encourage laterality (left and right, up and down, front and back)
- Obstacle courses and ball games such as soccer, throwing and targeting, Twister and animal walking
